Candles provide hours of warm comforting fragrance and ambience when cared for. Care and proper burning is simple but often overlooked, simply because most never are given the appropriate information. Wicks need proper trimming. Wick Length: Every wick type has different trim lengths. Wooden wicks should be trimmed to be no more than 3/8 inch above the wax. Too long and the flame will burn out before the wax wicks up the wick to provide a fuel source for the flame. Too short and the melted wax will drown the flame. Burn Length: The first burn is the most important. Candles should burn long enough to fully melt the wax across the entire container. If the wax is not allowed to fully melt, the candle will continue to "dig a well" downwards for all future burns. Candles should not burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Placement: Candles should be lit within sight, kept away from flammable items and burned in an area free from disturbance--windows, pets, small children. Wax Pool: Wax pool is simply the area of melted wax. Wax pool should be kept free from debris.
Warning: Burn within sight. Keep away from things that catch fire. Keep away from children. Burn in proper holder. Keep wax pool free of debris. Stop burning when 1/2" unmelted wax remains. Trim wick to 1/8" to 3/16" each time candle is lit. Avoid drafty areas. Troubleshooting: 1) If flame continues to go out, check wick. Burned portion of wick will sometimes curl outwards. Extinguish candle. Allow wick to cool. Pinch curled parts of wick inwards, curled parts will be break off. Re-light. 2) If flame height is low, perfrom troubleshooting step 1. If issue persists, wick top may be more trapezoidal than rectangular. Trim wick within proper height lengths but to be more rectangular. 3) Other burning issues are possibly due to drafts or not allowing candle wax pool to fully melt in previous burns.
